The Perfect Team USA for the Presidents Cup at Medinah
Step aside, Brandt Snedeker. Here’s what Team USA should look like for the Presidents Cup at Medinah.
The Presidents Cup is still a few months away, but following Jackson Koivun's win at the 3M Open on Sunday, it became one of the hottest talking points on Golf Twitter.
The consensus was clear: Koivun should absolutely be one of Brandt Snedeker's captain's picks—and I couldn't agree more.
But the Presidents Cup chatter also made me think about the rest of the team and who I'd give a pick to if I was leading Team USA into battle against the Internationals at Medinah come September.
Here's the 12-man squad I settled on—this could easily be the coolest Team USA in history.
My Presidents Cup Picks for Team USA

Scottie Scheffler
Cameron Young
Russell Henley
Sam Burns
Ben Griffin
Collin Morikawa
My Six Captain’s Picks
Chris Gotterup (Current Ranking: 7th)

Three wins and 12 top-25 finishes in 19 starts this year. Gotterup is a no-brainer.
Wyndham Clark (Current Ranking: 9th)

Since his win at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Clark finished third at the Memorial, T-11 in Canada, he won the U.S. Open, tied for fifth at the Travelers Championship, for 13th at the Genesis Scottish Open, and missed the cut at The Open. His fire is perfect for team golf. Another no-brainer.
Justin Thomas (Current Ranking: 10th)

When team competitions roll around, JT automatically makes my teams. He’s built for these events. Don’t overthink it.
Xander Schauffele (Current Ranking: 11th)

Team USA and Schauffele go hand-in-hand. Leaving him off the team wasn’t even a question. Submit his name, Sneds, and don’t think twice about it.
Jake Knapp

Team USA’s aura would go up a few ticks if Knapp was on the squad, but I also think he’s the perfect four-ball player. He’s 14th in birdie average, fifth in birdie or better percentage, and the best par-5 scorer on TOUR. Like we saw on Sunday at the 3M Open, Knapp can go on absolute heaters. Plus, he’s one of the best putters and iron-players on TOUR—that’ll always play at the Cups.
Jackson Koivun

I’ve already seen enough from Koivun: he’s an absolute problem. I need him on Team USA—and somehow, it already feels close to a guarantee. If you want some numbers, here you go: Koivun had a match-play record of 13-4-1 at Auburn. Do the right thing, Sneds.
