The Jackson Koivun Era Has Begun on the PGA TOUR

Jackson Koivun entered the week of the John Deere Classic–his first start as a professional on the PGA TOUR–among the top five favorites to win. As ridiculous as that is, it isn’t the least bit surprising, nor is it undeserved. And he’s not alone. Every year, young stars enter the TOUR more and more prepared to go up against the world’s best.

Koivun is one of the most decorated and dominant collegiate golfers of all time, just recently choosing to forego his senior year at Auburn in favor of turning professional. With his TOUR card secured through the PGA TOUR University Accelerated program, he chose to turn professional after an impressive T23 finish at the U.S. Open.

It would take too long to go through and list every single one of his accolades and explain just how talented he is. Luckily, in a well-crafted YouTube video released just this morning, the PGA TOUR did that job for me. As the clickbait-y title card indicates, it wouldn’t be all that crazy to call him the greatest collegiate golfer we’ve ever seen.

Needless to say, expectations are high and the spotlight is bright. But Koivun is just one of many that are making an early mark on professional golf. Every week, it seems there’s a new amateur or rookie turning heads, and they just seem to keep getting better. And the TOUR’s biggest names should be nervous.

Scottie Scheffler has dominated the PGA TOUR in recent years, putting up some of the best statistical seasons we’ve seen since the peak of Tiger Woods. Alongside Scottie, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele have both won multiple major championships in the past three seasons. The best of the best have been firmly established.

But these young challengers are not to be ignored. Blades Brown, barely 19 years old but already deep in his second year of professional golf, is teeing it up at the John Deere as well, hoping for his fifth TOUR top 10 finish of the year. Ben James, recent graduate of University of Virginia, is off to a great start in his young professional career. Amateurs like Preston Stout, Miles Russell, Ryder Cowan and more are lurking around the corner.

And each new name that enters the fray seems to be more prepared than the last. Koivun, seemingly mature beyond his years, opted against joining the TOUR in 2025 and instead returned to Auburn for his junior year to work on his mental game.

As technology continues to progress, and the psychological side of golf shows its importance, the young talent in golf will only get better. Practice facilities are improving, instruction is improving, mental coaching is improving, the list goes on. Amateurs have access to many of the same tools that the best professionals use to hone their game.

Keep an eye on these young stars as they find their way to the PGA TOUR. It won’t be long before they’re battling with the best on the world’s biggest stages.
