Rory, Rahm, and Reed: You’re Not Going to Want to Miss This Week’s Irish Open
Rest up now, folks. With the Solheim Cup and a loaded Irish Open this week, you're going to need to set some early alarms.
Most eyeballs will be on the Solheim Cup this week—as they should be, it’s one of the best events in golf—but if you have a second TV laying around, you’re not going to want to miss the Amgen Irish Open.
Sadly, it’s being played at Trump National Golf Links & Hotel, but the field makes up for the venue.
Not only is defending champion Rory McIlroy back looking for his third Irish Open win, but he’ll be joined by Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Brooks Koepka, Joaquin Niemann, Robert MacIntyre, Shane Lowry, and Patrick Reed, among others out in Doonberg, Ireland.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Rahm was planning to leave LIV Golf after the season with the league’s financial and operating future very much in question. On Tuesday, the Spaniard was asked if he’d like to see a pathway back to the PGA Tour, but he didn’t do much more than dodge the question.
Maybe a few days back being around his buddy McIlroy will help him with his plan for next year.
As for Reed, he has now completed his one-year suspension from the Tour after leaving LIV in January. In 15 DP World Tour starts this year, Reed won twice and finished inside the top 20 eight times. He enters the Irish Open ranked first in the Race to Dubai standings, which puts him in position to earn a Tour card for next season—the top 10 players in the RTD earn spots on the American circuit.
There’s plenty of things to keep an eye on at Doonbeg this week, inside and outside the ropes—you’re not going to want to miss it.
