Anna Nordqvist Isn't Done Yet, Rallies to Make Cut in Final LPGA Start

Retirement is coming, but not quite yet. Anna Nordqvist rallied with a 4-under 68 to earn one more weekend in her final LPGA start.

Anna Nordqvist didn't want a farewell tour. When the three-time major champion announced Wednesday morning that she would retire from professional golf at the end of the 2026 season, she did it quietly. At 8 a.m., she posted the news to social media, sharing the decision with the golf world before heading out to play the FM Championship pro-am like any other Wednesday.

There was no elaborate send-off, no months-long goodbye, and that was intentional. For Nordqvist, this wasn't supposed to be about making her retirement a spectacle. She wanted to keep the moment intimate, surrounded by the people who have been with her throughout her career—her team, her family and the people who have helped her become one of Europe's most accomplished players of her generation.

I probably owe a few close people an apology for not giving them the heads up." Nordqvist said. "Felt like I needed to do something for myself and I've had an incredible career.

Nordqvist's career is one that hardly needs a grand farewell to validate it. Since turning professional in 2008, the Swede has collected three major championships, nine LPGA Tour victories, and for more than a decade, she has been one of the defining figures of Team Europe making her Solheim Cup debut in 2009 and becoming one of the competition's most reliable and recognizable European players.

Her 10th Cup is likely the most important of her life. Nordqvist will head to Amsterdam as the leader if Team Europe giving her one final chance to add to a resume that already includes nine Solheim Cup appearances and an overall record of 17-15-3.

If there was a time for Nordqvist to end on a high note, this season is actually kind of perfect. Her year has included a particularly memorable showing at the Evian Championship, where she finished inside the top-10, proving that even at this stage of her career, she can still hang with the best in the world.

I always felt like I wanted to finish on my terms, and I've actually gotten that opportunity," Nordqvist said. "This year I finally started feeling like myself again inside the ropes, and I wanted to like finish my career at a note when I was enjoying the game, and I felt like it was in a good place on and off the course...I'm quite content with what I've done and what I accomplished, and it's time to go focus on my family and focus on my health.

And this week, in her final start, she's showing once more that the proof is in the pudding. After an opening round that left her needing to make up ground to stick around for the weekend, Nordqvist came out Friday and did exactly what she needed to do. She fired a 4-under 68 to climb the leaderboard and, more importantly, move safely inside the cut line.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate a career that has spanned nearly two decades than with one more weekend.
