After the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open, Michael Brennan was disqualified for using non-permitted green-reading materials.

The rule he broke, Model Local Rule G-11, states that players can only use yardage books approved by the Commitee. Handwritten notes in the yardage book are permitted if they are derived from personal experience out on the course.

Brennan played Torrey Pines’ North Course of Thursday, making four birdies and two bogeys on his way to a 2-under 70.

If his name sounds familiar, he won the Bank of Utah Championship as a sponsor exemption in just his third PGA TOUR start back in October. He’s already the 35th-ranked player in the world.
