Why So Many Golfers Trust Titleist's Vokey Wedges At The Masters

Titleist is once again the Number 1 wedge of choice for players at The Masters, and it's thanks to the way they think about options.

When it comes to wedges, Titleist and its Vokey line dominate week to week on the PGA TOUR. It's an industry standard only emphasized during an event like the Masters, in which the course dictates such a wide variety of short game play.

To put a number on how much Vokey is trusted this week, the company has 114 wedges in play at ANGC, compared to 37 from their nearest competitor.

How The Trust Was Built

One major factor that has helped Titleist wedges separate from others in the marketplace is their consistency. Launch after launch, the company emphasizes player feedback, applying subtle changes to each new offering. The SM11s are no different.

While some may suggest that wedge technology doesn't change much from year to year, I'd argue that this is sort of the point. The mantra has become "evolution, not revolution." If it ain't broke, don't fix it. When you're number one, keep doing what got ya there.

There are, however, some key implementations that went into the SM11s. They feature an altered center of gravity flow between lofts. This better optimizes spin generation and control on partial shots with higher lofted wedges and full shots with stronger lofted ones. Better performing wedges aren't just about creating the most spin all the time, it's about having the right amount of spin for different shots.

Grinds, Grinds, Grinds

The SM11 wedges are built around subtle yet notable refinements to areas of the wedge that can deliver significant advantages. These competitive edges are especially apparent when it comes to lob wedges (as seen above).

First up is the addition of the Low Bounce K-Grind, a design that was popular on tour and earned two major wins in 2025. This made it such a popular option through WedgeWorks (Vokey's custom shop) that it has earned a spot in the full-time lineup.

To go along with the core SM11 wedges, WedgeWorks also updated their lob wedge options to include the following grings: L, A, K* (Star), A+ (Plus) and V grinds, plus a 62° M-Grind.

Having more grind options just gives us more tools to work with, whether it’s with tour players or dedicated amateurs. When a player gets their hands on the right grind, everything seems to click into place. The WedgeWorks lineup gives us the chance to find that optimal fit across even more playing styles and delivery patterns.
