Ahead of the release of Titleist's new T-series irons, the Skratch and Pro Shop teams headed down to the Titleist Performance Institute to get a closer look at the new lineup.

If you want to get technical, here's Gear Editor Ryan Barath's full overview of the T-series irons. A snippet:

On the subject of iron testing Titleist ambasador Russell Henley had this to say “[With] 9-iron, what I want to do is hit one really hard and be able to put it way up in the air. And then I also want to [have the ability] to take a lot of speed off and take spin off, but I still want it to land soft. Then when I get into my [long] irons, I want to be able to get that ball up in the air, but I don't want to get it up in the air with too much spin... Golf is getting to be more and more specific and the more technology, the more that we're learning about the game, the more every shot needs to be approached a little bit differently and be attacked in a different way.”

To get our own look at the new specifics, we hit TPI's short course, picked a par 3, and set two of our best up with 10 balls each. t's a game of precision and speed, two things Titleist knows a thing or two about, making the location extra fitting. Check it out above and watch how much GIR takes place. The game is as follows:

There are three points available.

  • First person to hit the green gets the first point
  • The person who hits the green the most consecutive times gets the second point
  • The person who's closest to the pin out of all 20 shots gets the third point.
