It should come to nobodys surprise that most average golfers really suck at lining themselves up. Whether it's off the tee or on the greens, what people perceive that they do and what they actually do are two completely different things. We could say the same about golf swings, but that's not what this story is about.

What this is about is AIM. Titleist's visual technology acronimed from Alignment Integrated Marking, which, if I'm being really honest, makes me wish I was in the meetings where they came up with the name.

What Is AIM

Since you now know what it means, lets talk about what it actually does, because this goes well beyond Titleist trying to save golfers from using Sharpie markers on their golf balls.

We’ve conducted significant testing around alignment tendencies and how accurate players are with different types of markings. The data consistently shows improvement for most golfers when they align their putts with our AIM designs. When we talk about improved performance, it needs to be discernible and impactful to the golfer.

Scott Cooper, Titleist’s Director of Golf Ball Product Development

Numbers released from Titleist state that AIM designs help golfers see up to a 35% improvement in right to left proximity compared to standard alignmnet options.

The not so dirty little secret when it comes to putting is that as a golfers there are only three things you have to get right to make a putt: the read, the speed, and your alignment, and although Titleist won't teach you how to read greens better, they're trying everything to at least help you with one third of the putting equation.

One more bit of free putting advice to wrap your head around.

Every putt that you hit is a straight putt. You just need to get it online at the right speed because after impact the rest is up to gravity and friction. Why do you think the pros work so hard on start lines?

New Titleist AIM Models

Now for the nitty-gritty. To go along with the designs already available on the Pro V1 line, the new AIM patterns are now available on Titleist’s AVX, Tour Soft, Velocity, and TruFeel balls.

The AVX and TruFeel models come with the option of the new AIM 360 markings which as the name suggests goes 360° around the ball, while the Tour Soft and Velocity models feature AIM performance designs on the side stamp and the opposite pole of the ball.
