Armed with more technology and player testing data than ever before, TaylorMade engineers set out to do one thing with their newest line of drivers - create the most fitable and customizable line of drivers in their history. And, with the Qi4d driver series, they have accomplished just that, not just with the heads themselves (which there are four), but with a new line of shafts developed in-house to help golfers find their ideal fit.

“More than ever, golfers are looking for a driver that’s fit for them and gives them speed off the tee. The Qi4D family of drivers has been engineered to deliver on both those fronts. From finely tuned aerodynamic heads to faces with improved roll radii and the use of the lightest weight materials in construction, we’ve created our fastest family of drivers. Coupled with cutting-edge REAX™ shafts and our industry-leading fitting capabilities that allow fitters and everyday golfers alike to quickly find the perfect head and shaft combination for their unique swing, Qi4D drivers allow golfers to realize their full potential off the tee.”

Yeah, you read that quote correctly.
For the first time in 20 years, the REAX name is back with a full line of shafts that have been co-developed with Mitsubishi Chemical to help golfers find a better fit based on their swing signature. To be fair, the idea of a swing signature isn’t new and is something that the best fitters in the world have been talking about for a long time in relation to how golfers move into the golf ball. But thanks to improved data capture and analysis, these signatures (categories based on player release patterns) have been made easier than ever to understand and break into categories:

After a golfer is fit into the right head, they can be more ideally fit into the correct shaft with the help of face on video and along with launch monitor data.
“With Qi4D, we’ve brought custom fitting to our stock shafts.REAX shafts are specifically designed to work with one of the three swing signature groups (Hold, Balanced, Active) with numerous flex and weight variations available throughout. Our driver fitting process is now more precise and more efficient than ever.”
-Matthew Simone, Director of Product Category - Custom
Now before we dive into those Qi4D heads, I would like to bring a couple of things to your attention.
First off, “stock” and co-designed shafts are great performers and there are a number of full category equipment companies that have their own in-house designed shafts manufactured by many of the major shaft manufacturers - the same ones making $400 aftermarket options.
Secondly, for those unfamiliar with TylorMade's head of custom Matthew Simone, he spent more than 6 years as the manager of innovation over at Ping, he’s no Johnny-come-lately to the idea of developing unique high level customization programs to help fitter help golfers find better fits.
You know maybe thats a little too inside baseball kinda stuff, but its nothing a simple Google and LinkedIn search wont tell you either way. So lets talk about those heads.
Like the Qi35 and the Qi10 before that, the core of the Qi4D series is carbon. Carbon sole, carbon crown, and of course, carbon face, with the 5th generation carbon face of the Qi4D now armed with a new roll radius to reduce spin variances, increase speed, and deliver more consistency.
The drivers also feature other core technologies like adjustable hosels and adjustable weighting based on the models. Plus, for the first time to the consumer, launch monitor enabled (LME) heads with fully embedded face markers to help golfers gain extremely accurate insight into their club delivery when using foresight photo based launch monitors - this is available for an extra $50.

The drivers also feature a newly refined shape for improved aerodynamics and a more confidence-inspiring look from address.
The fairway woods feature refined soles for better turf interaction and various materials and weight utilizations based on the model - which we’ll get to here in just a moment. They also offer adjustability across all lofts for the first time, plus a flatter stock lie angle than previous models - which again, might not sound like a big deal, but for those golfers and especially fitters who have been begging TaylorMade for years to produce a flatter lie angle, the request has been answered.

The Qi4D core driver likely brings back memories for some thanks to its quad weighting system that features two heavy (9g) and two lighter (4g) weights to fine tune ball flight and driver MOI.

The core fairway wood is sticking to the adage of its it’s not broken, don’t fix it, by offering a fast steel construction with a balance center of gravity location to produce higher launch with lower spin.

By removing the sliding weight track in the driver, engineers were able to raise the forgiveness of the LS model compared to the previous Qi10, but without sacrificing the lower launch and spin profile.

The new tour fairway wood features a compact titanium body and carbon crown, adjustable weights (three in the sole to fine-tune ball flight), and a 65-gram tungsten pad in the sole to produce extremely fast and lower spinning shots.

With the largest address shape in the driver and fairway wood line, the Qi4D Max driver offers extremely high MOI performance made possible by swapping out the titanium collar of the driver with aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum. This is also TaylorMade’s first Max driver with adjustable TAS weights (13g & 4g) to allow greater adjustability for the end user. The Max Lite offers all the same tech but in a lighter overall package to help slower golfers gain speed and swing the club easier.

The fairway woods are all about forgiveness and come in oversized shallow platform to push the center of gravity low and away from the face to increase launch and boost MOI.

The shallow face is also a huge confidence booster for those who will likely be hitting a lot of fairway off the dech and need more help.

The Qi4D drivers and fairway woods will be available for pre-order starting on January 8th and will be in retail stores starting on January 29th.
