Why The Right Shaft Can Make All The Difference

Every golfer knows that getting fit is important, but it's especially important when it comes to the driver—the reason being that a driver can make or break a scorecard.

But it's not just about distance, and it's not just about flex; it comes down to making sure the three main components of a shaft are right for your game: weight, flex, & shaft profile. This is why shaft manufacturers like Fujikura develop various profiles to fit different player swing types.

That idea was on full display at the American Century Championship, where Skratch spent time with Fujikura on the practice range watching celebrity golfers go through fittings. Different swings required different solutions, reinforcing the biggest lesson in club fitting: there isn't one shaft that's best for everyone.

Now every shaft company does things slightly differently, but with Fujikura, they have three profiles in their Ventus TR line, plus others, including the softer and lighter Ventus White, to help golfers match how the shaft bends with how they deliver the club.

The result is better center face contact and tighter dispersion.

The Ventus TR Blue is an established option for golfers who are looking for a stable golf shaft that can help with dispersion; the Red and Black shafts fit on either side of that spectrum.

The Red has an overall softer mid-section and tip section, which can help increase dynamic loft at impact for players who are looking for a bit more launch and spin. This makes it a great option in the driver, but for many golfers, an even better option in the fairway wood to help add a bit more pop. This softer profile is also better suited for players who need stability but have a slightly smoother tempo.

On the other hand, the Black is the stiffest of the bunch and features a stiffer mid-section and tip to add stability for faster swingers who tend to "pull the handle more" and load the shaft in more during the transition from the backswing.
