Skratch Attests: Titleist AIM Golf Balls

If you struggle to aim off the tee or on the greens, this could be the solution you've been looking for.

Whether it's off the tee with a driver or a three-foot putt, being properly aligned is key to consistency shot after shot. But, the issue most golfers have is "how" to align, and how do you know you're aiming where you want to.

This is where Titleist and their AIM - Alignment Integrated Marking lineup of golf balls come in to help you pick your line more confidently and consistently, so you don't have to rely on trying to mark each ball the same.

(I'm also genuinely curious how long it took to come up with the AIM acronym and then bring the naming convention together, because every great product needs a good name, and AIM really works here)

So with this all in mind, I (someone who prefers to putt without a line on the golf ball in any way, shape, or form) decided that with so many more players electing to putt with a line, and data showing that it can offer a noticeable improvement, I should maybe once again give it a try.

My Take

So, as I said just a moment ago, I've never been a big fan of using a line on my golf ball when I putt. I had tried it in the past and used various types of alignment aids over the years, but whether it was based on my extreme eye dominance or just the way my brain works, I never stuck with it.

I'm also willing to admit that watching other golfers take way too much time to line up putts, recalibrate, remark, and line up putts again (then miss), made me deeply despise the method as a whole, and I became contrarian.

At this point, you're probably wondering, "I thought this was going to be a positive review on these new AIM golf balls; this guy sounds like he hates it." Stay with me here.

Although I don't use AIM on every putt, I have made it a habit to use it on straight(ish) putts within the 3-5 foot range to more confidently see my line when addressing the ball.

Another underrated use case for the AIM golf balls, especially the AIM 360 models, is when practicing short-range putts on my putting mat or before a round. With the full 360 alignment, it's super easy to tell right away if you hit a putt on line and a great way to focus on creating good forward roll.

In a way, it's no different than using Titleist RCT golf balls when practicing indoors in a Trackman (or other radar-based) simulator. Why not use every tool at your disposal to work on your golf game.

Something Nobody Is Talking About: Driving!

Yep, you read that right. My favorite use case for AIM golf balls is off the tee with my driver.

I, like many golfers tend to struggle with alignment off the tee and as weird as it might sound, I also struggle with visualizing hitting the very back of the ball and properly aligning face angle to my target. When using an AIM golf ball, I set the alignment perpendicular to my target (and parallel to my face angle) to help me make sure my face is set square.

It might seem simple but this little trick has made a big difference to my driving, and if I can feel more confident to give it a full rip with my driver and know that its (mostly) going to go where I aim, then thats a huge win that translates to improvement through the bag, and onto the putting green.
